The Advanced Certified Scrum Master (ACSM) course is designed to both teach you new skills as well as validate your current skills as a Scrum Master.
The course was designed to bridge the gap between the Certified Scrum Master (CSM) course and the Certified Scrum Professional Scrum Master (CSP-SM) course.
The Scrum Alliance wanted a transition point between the two certifications that validated skills as an Advanced Scrum Master whilst providing the necessary skills, tools and knowledge that would allow a Scrum Master to advance to the next level in their career.
Where the CSM is about teaching you to be a Scrum Master and providing you with all the knowledge and tools you would need to do that, the Advanced Certified Scrum Master course focuses a great deal on conversations and interactions around Scrum Master challenges.
In order to benefit from attending the course and achieving your certification as an Advanced Certified Scrum Master, you would need to have a Certified Scrum Master credential and a minimum of one years’ worth of experience as a Scrum Master in a working environment.
The Advanced Certified Scrum Master course attracts a range of delegates, some with a year or so worth of experience whilst others may have as much as a decade worth of experience in the field.
The simulations, exercises and conversations in the course are designed to extract the most meaningful challenges and address how those challenges can be overcome.
You would need a context to understand those challenges and you would need an active working environment where you can implement and experiment with the subject material that you are learning.
As you progress along the course, you are being assessed to ascertain whether you possess the necessary Scrum Master skills to progress in your career and be designated an Advanced Certified Scrum Master.
That means that you must be actively participating and demonstrating that you have experience in leading conversations, facilitation and to a degree, coaching.
The Advanced Certified Scrum Master (ACSM) course is also designed to help you bridge the gap between Scrum Master and Agile Coach. So, you’ll be learning about coaching and facilitation throughout the course, and you will have an opportunity to practice in the simulations.
So, in summary, the ACSM course both teaches new skills and tools whilst validating your current capabilities as a Scrum Master.
If you are successful in embedding the learning objectives and demonstrating new capabilities, you will be awarded the certification of Advanced Certified Scrum Master by the Scrum Alliance.
