In #scrum, the #productowner will work closely with #developers, customers and product stakeholders to create a #backlog. Essentially, a list of work items that are needed to build a solution or solve a complex problem.
In the beginning, it’s a user story that contains just enough information for the team to understand the outline of the problem or requirement, and also acts as a placeholder for a conversation about what is needed, why it is needed, and how that will impact the customer or end-user.
#backlogrefinement happens when the team examine the work item more closely and look to prepare the item to be ready for inclusion in the #sprintbacklog. Breaking it down to a point where it is good to go and everybody understands what is needed for it to be a success.
So, why don’t teams simply do this instead of #sprintplanning? Why don’t they use this process to proceed with what needs doing rather than invest time in a #sprintplanning session?
In this short video, John McFadyen explains why #sprintplanning remains vital in a #scrum environment.
